Ambara's Story

Ambara was a young Hindu man living in Southeast Asia. He had gotten a job and was hoping to save enough money to get married soon. His plans came to screeching halt when he had a motorcycle accident. He was injured so badly that he couldn’t get out of bed for two months. He was eventually able to get out of bed but was so crippled that he could not work. He was ashamed because he did like being a burden to others.

That’s when Ambara  started praying that he would die. He prayed this way for two years. One day, he met a Wycliffe Bible Translator named Mac. Mac is one of the students I train in Bible translation a couple of years ago. Mac started telling Ambara stories about Jesus. Ambara started getting excited. He said, “I know who you are talking about.” Mac asked him what he meant.

Ambara explained, “two months ago while I was praying that I would die, I had a vision of a holy person who was without sin and dressed in white with a glowing face and long hair. He told me it was not time for me to die and come home. I think this is the Jesus you are telling me about in your story.”

Mac pulled up a painting of Jesus on his phone and asked him if this was the man he had seen in his vision. “That’s him. He has the same face of the man I saw in my vision. But the man in my vision was dressed in traditional Southeast Asian clothing.” That’s how Ambara met Jesus.
